Dear Friends,
As GreenWalk is being conducted every third Sunday in Madurai, taking interested Public to heritage places with Jain Monuments & Brahmi Inscriptions and Few of my friends in our FB-AAM team has turned regular participants, covering the useful events, I wanted to dedicate a seperate thread for GreenWalk Collections.
Here, I will post the event-report, Pictures, Videos and other updates regarding GreenWalk and Others can post the Informations on Madurai's Jain monumental places here.
Everyone knows Granite-Mafias have spoiled the nature's gifts in & around Madurai which doesn't spare historically significant Brahmi Inscriptions & Jain Monuments-Sculptures-Caves found in those hillocks.
People of Arittapatti village, at first, agitated against Granite Mafias following which Madurai Environmental activists, with the help of archeologists, came to know about destruction of Madurai's histories in the name of Granite mining..With the then Madurai's Collectors Mr.Sahayam IAS and Mr.Ansul Mishra IAS holding the Granite Mafia's with Iron-hand, environmental activists in Madurai had decided to organise this GreenWalk festival every month, bringing interested Public to these places and creating them the awareness of protecting Brahmi Inscriptions & Jain Sculptures, monuments found in these hillocks. They believe Continous visit by Public at frequent intervals and by making these hillocks, as tourist spots, can save these heritage sites from anti-social elements.
Let me start with GreenWalk-25, a TreeFest, conducted in Keezhakuyilkudi, enjoyed by many patrons.
