The castle is located on the top of a hill.This fortress is very well preserved.The archaeological remains found belong to the Islamic period.After the foundation of the town of Murcia (825), as well as serving as a fortress, it was also a prison and grain store for peasants having huge underground reservoirs so that the garrison could hold out for long periods of time.After the constitution of the Kingdom of Murcia, it was converted into a border castle between the kingdoms of Aragon and Castile and it performed this function until the 15th century, Murcia, was a border city during the Reconquista.
Above the castle, and culminating in the summit, is the Heart of Jesus Christ. This sculpture is from 1951 and measures 14 meters and replaces an earlier one (10 meters high) that was demolished in 1936 by Republicans.
This mountain has Argaric vestiges of the era (2000 BC) and signs of a Roman presence. Museum a interpretive center of Argaric culture where you will be able to see the remains found.
