Located in the South-West of France, Bordeaux is the regional capital of Aquitaine and the Gironde department. The historic city centre is now at the heart of an urban agglomeration with more than 700,000 residents, and the ambition to become a million-resident metropolis by 2030. The Bordeaux Metropolitan Area is one of the most attractive in France. Classed as a world heritage site by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) since 2007, Bordeaux is still looking to develop further. Many large-scale projects are currently underway. Here are just a few examples: soon the arrival of the high speed rail line will mean Bordeaux is just two hours away from Paris, a bridge will link the Bacalan and Bastide areas, the FRAC (Regional Funds for Contemporary Art) will have a new home and the Cité des Civilisations du Vin will be established.
