THE multibillion Ronald Ngala Utalii College scheduled to be built in Kilifi will be commissioned in two months, senior Tourism fund official has said.
Charles Okeyo, the head of levy operations from Tourism fund formerly known as Catering Tourism and Development Levy Trustees, said the college is the biggest tourism development at the coast.
Tourism fund is financing the project at Sh8 billion to be built in five phases. Speaking to the Star on the sidelines of Pub, Entertainment and Restaurant Association annual general meeting in Mombasa on Thursday, Okeyo said the project is a flag ship of Vision 2030.
This is an ultra-modern project which will benefit the locals and the government, he said. The project will be built at Rea Vipingo in Kilifi county on a 60-acre piece of land.
It is expected to boost tourism at the coast. The institution will offer training and refresher courses to students and staff in the hospitality industry," said Okeyo.
The Kenya Utalii College is currently the leading trainer in tourism and hospitality services in East and Central Africa. The college runs satellite colleges in Kisumu and Mombasa.
"Coast region has been blessed with vast tourists attraction cites and the college proximity to the region will make learning fun and a reality," he added.
Among the features in the new institution will include sporting facilities, swimming , housing facilities that include two and three bed room flats, and mansions for the institutions staff.
The official said the the community nearby will also benefit from a school, a dispensary and a borehole as a way of giving back to the community.
Earlier on the Tourism Fund CEO Allan Chenane during the unveiling of the project model, said the community around the institution will also be advised to put up hostels for those students who will want to live outside the college.
