What do you think about Prague ?

I visited Prague recently and was surprised to find a well preserved centraleuropean city full of interesting architecture from different epoques, beatiful historical buildings in excellent condition, especially in the Old Town and at the Charles Bridge.

In my mind when I grew up Prague was associated with Charta 77, barb wire and communism. Not a place you went to on vacation.

The central part is very tidy and tourist friendly, but outside central Prague some of the buildings still look post communism decay.

Prague was featured on the tv-series "Scam City" but during my 3 days I didn't get harassed by beggars or panhandlers in the street. I felt safe.

As the westernmost slavic city in the world I would definately recommend a visit. It's a city with many sights, museums, restaurants. It has good public transport, decent prices. There are tourist traps, but if you're sensible you can avoid them.

What do you think about Prague ? Have you been there ? Would like to know if someone has been there in the commuistdays, was the city popular for western tourists also back then ?

The Old Town in excellent condition

The station building in Reporyje. Around here I saw some post communism urban decay.
