ST. Robert’s International Academy, the newest special business high school and creative arts elementary school in Iloilo City will be the latest occupant in the famous Smallville Complex along Pison Avenue.

Today, the 8th of May at 8 a.m., the academy’s favorite priest Rev. Fr. Ryan Teves will celebrate the Thanksgiving Mass for the phenomenal growth of the academy especially the acquisition of the new campus on the academy’s third year of operation. It can be recalled that the high school department was launched March 8, 2010 and opened on June 8, 2010. The elementary department was launched on December 8, 2010 and opened June 8, 2011. Indeed the infinity 8 is an auspicious date for the academy thus; they hope to inaugurate the new campus on March 8, 2013 as they ground breaks today – May 8, 2012.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog will lead the VIPs invited to participate in the ground breaking ceremony, along with invited personalities from DepEd and various government agencies. The Board of Directors will be in full force - Madam Dancel Sorio, the chair of the board will be represented by Dr. George D. Sorio, Dr. Robert Galindez – vice chair and president, Dr. Bernadette Cruz-Rosales – treasurer, Prof. Mary June Galindez, Dr. Lerma Baes, and Capt. Isagani Abello – members, and Atty. Joshua Alim – corporate secretary. Expected to attend too, are the excited parents, pupils and students and friends of St. Robert’s.

The academy stood proud from its humble beginnings – opening its doors to the first batch of nine freshmen in SY 2010-2011; the number grew by more than 10 percent as the academy registered more than a hundred enrollees with the opening of the creative arts elementary department in SY 2011-2012. In June of 2012 the Department of Education in Western Visayas, as endorsed by the office of the City Schools Division Superintendent received its Government Permit to Operate its Pre-Elementary department (Nursery & Prep 1 & 2); Elementary department (Grade 1 to 6), and the High School department (1st to 4th year).

As St. Robert’s welcome on their third year both the old and new pupils and students this June 8, they are excited to implement the full e-Learning environment to all levels – the first in the region, and probably the fifth school to embrace e-Learning in the entire country. Pupils and students will come to school in style as they carry only a small iPad as compared to the traditional turtle back condition of pupils and students carrying a full load of textbooks.

The iPad stores all the eBook needed for their classroom instruction and lessons will come alive with music, animations and drills that will help them master the lessons. The new learning environment placed the students in a masterful condition where they have full access to the world wide web as all classrooms are WiFi hotspots.

All the teachers will undergo intensive training with Vibal Publishing House who supplied the eBook for St. Robert’s International Academy. Dr. Arnold Fuentes, the academy’s IT consultant will continually enhance the teacher’s IT skills; while the two other consultants, Prof. Kevin Piamonte, and Mr. Al Fernandez, will also hold seminar-workshops on the use of educational technology in classroom instruction.

The Robertines are slowly but surely making its presence felt in the community. They grabbed the Basketball Championship in ISSA’s cluster B category, participated in the grand finals of ABS-CBN News casting competition, won in the SM Little Stars and produced Tangled – the production. And, in July this year, six high school students will represent the Philippines in the SAGE World Cup in San Francisco, California, USA. In the said competition, St. Robert’s team will present its vermiculture project and will compete with 30 other countries. The vermiculture project is conducted in the municipality of Bingawan - the academy’s adopted municipality for its entrepreneurial projects.

The academy’s special business high school curriculum is on a dual enrollment with California State University. Adopting CSU’s Entrep Program, the student stands to get credit from CSU when their Entrep project portfolio is found acceptable and according to CSU’s standards – another first in business education.

St. Robert’s International Academy will position itself as the premier special business high school, and creative arts elementary school in the country. The meticulous corporate planning resulted to the development goals that will guide the instructional program and support services in the next five years thus, the slogan: Creative Technopreneurship: be Transformed, be Robertine!/PN
