:D
I thought it was time to start my thread on the Netherlands, the country I was born and raised in, as I have just spent a long weekend there.
(Holland, ofcourse, only refers to the region around the provinces of North- and -South Holland)
On wednesday, I stayed with friends in Amsterdam. This photo was taken near Hoofddorpplein in the district of Oud-Zuid:
1.
Just one photo of Amsterdam though, as I spent a few days in the Achterhoek region of the eastern province of Gelderland, visiting a friend who has recently moved there. I have barely visted this area, which is known as the "Dutch mid-west", in my entire life, so I'm sharing my first proper impression of it here.
The starting point of our trip is the not particularily beautiful station of Doetinchem (pop +/- 50.000):
2.
Some old factories on the river Oude Ijssel, which won't be there very much longer:
3.
Ofcourse there's nothing wrong with re-using land that has now become useless, but I sometimes fear that the whole country (outside the old centres) is turning into this:
4.
There are many old churches in the region, this one's in the village of Zelhem:
5.
On sunday, we cycled from the village where my friend lives (Halle) to Zutphen through the Achterhoek countryside:
Transformer house:

The Oude-Ijssel again:

Castle in Vorden:

Giant oak in Vorden:

Vorden church:
