President Pranab Mukherjee dedicated the Integrated Terminal Complex to the people of the State at a grand function held on Thursday afternoon at Raipurs Swami Vivekananda Airport. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh, Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt and Chief Minister Raman Singh also present there.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Civil Aviation Minister Singh heaped praise upon Chhattisgarhs Government mainly for slashing taxes on air fuel.
The Minister also announced to increase the number of flights from Raipur airport and adding more facilities to passengers and added that airports to be constructed in States two key cities Bilaspur and Raigarh as well.
Governor Dutt said that Chhattisgarh was one of the fastest growing States of the country and the new terminal complex was a perfect gift for it.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) spent about Rs150 crore for the New Complex which is to be made operational from November 10.
The beautiful complex has the capacity to serve 700 passengers, equipped with centralised air-conditioning system, five lifts, three escalators, sophisticated CCTVs, public address system, fire-fighting equipment and two aero bridges, AAI chairman VP Agrawal told newsmen.
Raipurs Swami Vivekananda Airport is spread over an area of 700 acres, having runway of length 7,450 ft and its perfectly located between Raipur city and Naya Raipur.
AAI officials said that the airport is capable of handling aircraft up to AB 321 type aircraft. The airport handled 5.30 lakh passengers in the fiscal year 2010-11 and 8.10 lakh passengers in year 2011-12.
Officials claimed that the airport has witnessed tremendous growth in passengers traffic and is expected to one million passengers during the 2012-13.
The AAI said its projects for constructions of new terminals are nearing completion at Khajuraho, Ranchi, Vadodara, Jaisalmer, Bhubaneshwar, Goa, Bikaner and Bhatinda.
