Nizhny Novgorod Strigino International Airport is the international airport serving the city of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. It is located on the outskirts of the city, 14 km southwest of city centre. It was founded in 1936.


In February 2011, the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region supported by the Federal Government and the Ministry of Transport announced an open tender to select a potential investor for MANN modernization that will take place in three phases up to 2021. The first stage includes the construction of a new passenger terminal with the total area of 15,000 square meters, capacity of 600 passengers per hour and costing more than 1 billion rubles. Commissioning is scheduled for the second quarter of 2014.

On February 8, 2013 City planning and architecture council at a meeting of the Nizhny Novgorod region approved the draft of the future passenger terminal of Strigino International Airport developed by British designers from Hintan Associates.

The capacity of the new terminal complex will be about one million passengers a year, at peak load it can handle up to 800 passengers per hour. The total area of ​​the terminal - 22 thousand square meters., the terminal will be equipped with four airbridges. Start of construction is planned for the second quarter of 2013.

Nizhny Novgorod will also host World Cup 2018 and renovation of the airport is a part for preparation, airport will welcome thousands from around the world.
